James Silverberg

James Silverberg is the CEO and founding attorney of the American Society For Collective Rights Licensing, the nation's leading collective rights management organization for illustrators and photographers, representing approximately 17,000 rights owner members.  ASCRL has distributed millions of dollars in collective revenue from around the world to ASCRL members since its founding in 2015. James is also the Director of Litigation for IPG, The Intellectual Property Group, a national art and entertainment law practice, with offices in New York and Washington, DC. He has been an author's rights advocate for over 40 years and has litigated copyright cases from coast to coast recovering millions of dollars for the firm's copyright clients, representing such notable intellectual properties as the famous Zapruder Film of the Kennedy Assassination, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and the Nixon Library. He is a member of the NY, DC, and Md bars, the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, and the United States District Court Bars of Colorado, District of Columbia, Northern District of Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Northern District of Ohio, and Middle District of Texas. He is legal counsel to the White House News Photographers Association, and is formerly counsel to American Photographic Artists, the American Center for Design, the Graphic Design Education Association, AIGA Washington, and AIGA Maryland, the Shoshin Illustration Society, and the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington. He has taught for over 20 years, working as a Professor of Law teaching Art & Entertainment Law at the Washington College of Law, American University, as Adjunct Faculty in the Masters of Arts Administration Program, American University, teaching Legal Aspects of Arts Management, in the Communications, Art, and Design Department in the Bachelors program of  the Virginia Commonwealth University, teaching Studio Management, as a Lecturer in the Publication Specialist Program at George Washington University, and as an Instructor of Art, Business, and the Law at the Corcoran School of Art. He earned is Juris Doctor degree from the National Law Center, The George Washington University, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York, College at Purchase.
